Liven sind eine Volksgruppe, die \u00fcberwiegend als Fischer in der Gegend um Kolka gelebt haben, sie sprechen eine eigene Sprache. Die sowjetischen Machthaber verboten den Fischern das Fischen auf dem Meer (grotesk) und zerst\u00f6rten ihre Boote, weil man mit diesen bis nach Schweden gelangen k\u00f6nne. Damit war den Fischern die Lebensgrundlage genommen, sie verlie\u00dfen ihr Land. Heute findet man in einigen D\u00f6rfern noch alte H\u00e4user, andere sind aufwendig restauriert oder neu gebaut \u2013 wohl nicht von den armen Fischern. Es gibt noch etwa 200 registrierte Liven in Lettland.<\/p>\n<p>Wir verlassen die K\u00fcste in s\u00fcdlicher Richtung. In <strong>Talsi<\/strong> legen wir einen kurzen Stopp ein. Talsi nennt sich \u201eDie Stadt der neun H\u00fcgel\u201c &#8211; das merken wir bei unserem Rundgang deutlich. Ein paar denkmalgesch\u00fctzte H\u00e4user fallen uns auf, ansonsten k\u00f6nnen wir die \u00fcberaus positive Bewertung im Reisef\u00fchrer nicht nachvollziehen.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Renda<\/strong> gibt es ein kleines Caf\u00e9 am Ufer der Abava. Leider kein Kuchen im Angebot daf\u00fcr aber allerlei herzhaftes aus Muttis K\u00fcche. Wir vergleichen gebratene mit gekochten Pelmeni, die gekochten schneiden besser ab.<\/p>\n<p>Wie die Kulisse zu einem Western erscheint die Hauptstra\u00dfe von <strong>Kuldiga<\/strong>. Die niedrigen, alten Holzh\u00e4user strahlen morbiden Charme aus, als sei die Zeit hier stehen geblieben. Sozialistischer Wohnungsbau fand im alten Stadtzentrum gl\u00fccklicherweise nicht statt. Eine weitere Attraktion der Stadt ist der Wasserfall, den die Venta 2m in die \u201eTiefe\u201c st\u00fcrzt. Es sei der breiteste Wasserfall Europas. Hier stellen sich gleich zwei Fragen: Geh\u00f6rt Island zu Europa? Reicht die H\u00f6he f\u00fcr die Qualifizierung als Wasserfall? Ist auch egal \u2013 f\u00fcr einen Salto r\u00fcckw\u00e4rts reicht es genauso wie f\u00fcr eine R\u00fcckenmassage.<\/p>\n<p>Am Abend kehren wir zur\u00fcck zur <strong>Abava<\/strong>. In einem weiten Bogen umschlie\u00dft der malerische Fluss eine herrliche Wiese. Blickt man an das andere Ufer, f\u00fchlt man sich in den s\u00fcdamerikanischen Urwald versetzt, nur Krokodile, Affen und Papageien fehlen. Das Wasser ist warm und l\u00e4dt zum Baden ein, selbst Torsten kann nicht widerstehen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wetter <\/strong>24\u00b0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Die sowjetischen Machthaber verboten den Fischern das Fischen auf dem Meer (grotesk) und zerst\u00f6rten ihre Boote, weil man mit diesen bis nach Schweden gelangen k\u00f6nne. Damit war den Fischern die Lebensgrundlage genommen, sie verlie\u00dfen ihr Land. Heute findet man in einigen D\u00f6rfern noch alte H\u00e4user, andere sind aufwendig restauriert oder neu gebaut \u2013 wohl nicht von den armen Fischern.
